Our blog is usually all pictures of our kiddos--but today I feel like writing some of my thoughts! I read an article that was a good reminder this week. It said on this Mother's Day to let go of any expectations, and instead try to: find a way to love another mommy, send a note to someone who is hurting, encourage a single mom, or just choose to serve someone. I loved that. The perspective I want to have on Mother's Day is true gratitude for this opportunity I have to be a mommy. Motherhood (for me) is full of exciting adventures, prayers for my kids, difficult days, really fun "firsts", tearful struggles, days where I see growth in my kids, messy days, times when my heart is bursting with love for them, and times when God provides needed, and often unexpected, refreshment when I feel like I have nothing left. Brad and I have been given the job to train these little ones to know who God is, that He has an unfailing love for them, and that if they choose to live their lives His way, then this life will go well for them, because God has plans for them...better plans than I could ever make for them. "The goal of this command is love, which comes from a pure heart and a good conscience and a sincere faith." 1 Timothy 1:5
There are so many moments I want to remember in the midst of this crazy, growing, exhausting, sweet, hard, loud, joyous phase of life we are in right now. I am making a list of some of these things today because I don't want to forget how special, and quick, these moments are. Before long this phase will be gone and I will be missing so many of these things...
*The way Claire smiles at Logan and how much she genuinely loves his attention.
*The way Logan says, "That's adorable!" or "It's okay baby sister" or "I love you sweetheart" to Claire. (Sweetheart is my favorite--that's what I call her too.)
*The way Logan says, "That's so sweet" when Brad kisses me hello/goodbye.
*The way Logan asks to give us "hugs and kisses" before we leave, even chasing us down to give them to us. I mean BIG hugs and kisses.
*Today when we were singing at nap time Logan sang, "Jesus is My Friend" all on his own. I want to remember that.
*Claire's wet sloppy kisses and how she is reaching for everything and is really fast! Also, how she smiles practically every time you look at her. So sweet.
*How sweet our mornings are together (most of the time that is!).
*How much I enjoy taking Claire into Logan's room to wake him up from his nap. We all get on the bed together and play, giggle, tickle, and talk.
*The nonstop questions and observations from Logan in the back seat of the car...everywhere we go. He is very observant (just like his Daddy) and remembers an uncanny amount of things from previous trips (just like his Daddy).
*The way Logan "hides" from us when he's playing with just his head covered and the rest of his body out in plain sight...but thinks we can't see him.
*The way Logan says his friends' and family's names and thanks God for them when we say our prayers together. If you are reading this, he has prayed for you before.
*Logan's frog jumping impression--hilarious. His general love for jumping.
*The way Logan "swims" in the bathtub and cleans Bucky with soap (his pirate ship from the Haywoods).
*Logan in his Superman PJ's--saving our family daily from "dangerous things" (his words).
*Reading with both kids. Easily one of my favorite things!
*Logan helping me do laundry--by climbing up and putting in one piece of clothing at a time, then climbing down and doing it all over again--for the entire load. Yes, it takes a lot longer, but he sure enjoys it. Yesterday he said, "This is so fun mommy!" That reminded me that laundry is all about perspective! =)
*The way Logan stands on his stool at the kitchen sink, looking out the window, and waiting for Brad to pull in the driveway. It's the best part of his day. Daddy let's him play in his car, wrestle, make-up games together, and do all things BOY.
And so many more. I am grateful to God for the opportunity to be with these sweet kids each day and that He entrusted them into our care for awhile. I am also grateful for my kind, loving husband who works hard each day for us to have this time together. He daily puts our needs above his own. Each day is a gift. An exhausting gift!
To my mom, who was very patient with me, I sincerely thank you. Thank you for the way you loved us each and every day, for making our house a warm, loving home, for supporting me at everything I did (soccer, dance, piano, softball- ha!, and everything else), for lovingly preparing special meals, for volunteering, for making holidays and birthdays really special, for giving us family traditions, for showing us the importance of family, and for giving me an example of a woman who loves God, prays, and reads His word. Love you.
Finally, here are some of my favorite "mom" moments from the past 3 years.
